FAQ
What is a sports massage?
A sports massage is a targeted, therapeutic treatment designed to address muscle tension, soft tissue restrictions, reduced flexibility, and repetitive strain often caused by physical activity, posture, or daily demands. It uses a combination of deeper pressure, stretching, and specific techniques to improve movement, reduce discomfort, and support performance and recovery.
Who can benefit from a sports massage?
Sports massage is not only for athletes. It is beneficial for:
Gym-goers and fitness enthusiasts
People with physically demanding jobs
Office workers with postural stress
Individuals recovering from certain muscular strains
Anyone experiencing tight, overworked, or restricted muscles
Is sports massage painful?
Sports massage can feel intense, deep, and sometimes uncomfortable, especially in tight or congested areas, but it should never feel unbearable or unsafe. We will communicate throughout and adjust the pressure to suit your comfort level while still achieving therapeutic results.
What should I do after a sports massage?
For the best outcome, it’s recommended to:
Drink water to support tissue recovery
Avoid intense exercise for 12–24 hours
Stretch gently if comfortable
Apply heat for relaxation or cold for inflammation, if advised
Expect possible mild soreness similar to a workout — this is normal and temporary
Do I need to complete any forms before my first treatment?
Yes. All new clients must complete and sign a consultation and pre-assessment form before treatment can take place. This is sent separately from the booking system and must be completed in advance to ensure safety, suitability, and the best treatment plan.
What is included in the consultation process?
The consultation covers your medical history, lifestyle, current health, goals, areas of pain or tension, medications, past injuries, and any preferences, so your treatment can be tailored safely and effectively.
What is your cancellation policy?
I kindly ask for 48 hours’ notice where possible and a minimum of 24 hours to avoid charges.
Less than 24 hours’ notice: 50% fee may apply
No-show: 100% fee applies
What should I prepare before you arrive?
Please ensure:
A clean, calm, smoke-free space large enough for the massage table (approx. 8ft x 4ft)
One full-size bath towel and two hand towels
Pets placed in another room or secure space
A clear path for equipment setup
Easy access for parking or drop-off
Will I need to remove clothing for the massage?
Massage usually requires some removal of clothing, but always based on your comfort. You will be professionally draped at all times to protect your privacy and dignity.
Can I stay fully clothed if I prefer?
Yes – several techniques can be adapted to allow you to remain partially or fully clothed depending on your comfort and treatment type.
Do you travel outside your regular service area?
Yes, where possible. Additional mileage charges may apply outside my standard boundary and will be confirmed before your appointment. Any parking fees must also be covered by the client.
What if I am feeling unwell on the day of my appointment?
If you are experiencing fever, flu-like symptoms, stomach illness, or any contagious condition, please contact me to reschedule for your health and mine.
Can children or other household members be present?
Yes, however for comfort, safety, and relaxation, the treatment environment should be quiet, private, and distraction-free.
What behaviour expectations apply during treatment?
This is a professional therapeutic service. Any inappropriate behaviour or language will result in the session ending immediately.
Do you bring all equipment?
Yes – I provide the massage table, oils, and all necessary equipment. Clients must provide one full-size bath towel and two hand towels.
How do I pay?
All bookings and payments are made in advance through Cliniko.
